50’a Prime Time Café Review

On a scale of 1 - 5
Food - 5
Experience - 5
Location - 5

This place is one of my top three favorite places to dine on Disney property. The food is great but the experience is just so much fun! Prime Time happens to holds one of my favorite Disney memories. The first thing you have to understand about the Prime Time is they have a shtick. Some of the servers here are better at this than the others but I've never had a bad time here. You will be asked to do things like set the table and they will make a big deal if you clean your plate!
So I must tell you a story to truly illustrate how much fun this place can be. A few years ago we went here for my husband’s birthday and it was his first visit here. Now he doesn’t really like it when a restaurant staff makes a fuss about his birthday. This day the planets aligned perfectly and I pulled off what may have been the ideal birthday scheme. As we were being led to our table I secretly whispered to the hostess that it was his birthday. When our waitress came to the table, she flipped the basket full of napkins and silverware down in front of him and said “Ok Birthday boy, set the table!” My husband responds, “As a matter of fact it is my birthday.” Well this couldn’t have gone better because at that moment I realize he thinks that her calling him Birthday Boy is part of the shtick! I’m off the hook! Throughout our lunch the waitress continues to give him a really tough time. He’s completely perplexed as to why she keeps picking on him. My husband then orders the fried chicken, which comes with collard greens. My husband refuses to eat green things or anything that might be considered a vegetable. Now my husband is a pretty good-sized fellow but when he realizes that our waitress is going to notice that he didn’t touch his vegetables, he suddenly seems fearful of our little petite waitress. So, he does what every kid does! He scatters the greens and then throws the chicken bones over them and then throws his napkin over the chicken bones. I just know this isn’t going to go well for him. Sure enough, she is on to him. She picks up his fork, removes the napkin, moves the chicken bones, and pushes all those greens together. Then she tells him she knows he didn’t even have a single bite! He makes excuses but she comes in with a scoop full of greens and does the airplane. I am laughing so hard at this moment I am practically laid out in the booth! I have never been able to make him do anything especially eat something he didn’t want to. I couldn’t even believe he let her do that. She let the whole room know he ate his greens too! I’ve never laughed like this in my entire life. Truly one of the most fun experiences I’ve had.
So let’s talk about the food! The Prime Time serves mostly good ole fashioned meals like fried chicken, pot roast, chicken pot pie, etc. They do offer sandwiches and salads as well as a fish option. You have to come here hungry! I don’t suggest you do the Prime Time Café in the middle of a really hot day. You are going to leave here stuffed with that pleasant pain of a fantastic meal. I’m a fan of the pot roast. I would consider myself a pot roast connoisseur and I find the Prime Time’s spectacular! The pot roast is just tender enough but not mushy, the veggies are crisp, the mashed potatoes are just right. I’m a fan! There are two treats I really come here for though – the peanut butter and jelly shake and the s’mores dessert. A lot of people grimace at the mention of a peanut butter and jelly shake but I promise you must try this! In fact, if you are only going to treat yourself once on your Disney visit THIS IS IT! Totally worth every little calorie! The s’mores are also brilliant! In fact I’ve taken their idea and made them at home regularly. A simple graham cracker topped with a chocolate bar and marshmallow toasted in the oven. Simple yet something we all love! Plus you get to choose your dessert through a viewmaster as demonstrated by friend Scottie in the photo!
Don't forget to mind your manners here and keep your elbows off the table! I seem to get in trouble for that one every time but I ALWAYS clean my plate!
